Build Your Portfolio
Whether you are a freelancer or looking for your next copywriting opportunity, a portfolio helps you showcase your talent. If you are interested in multiple areas, instead of adding a variety of unrelated samples in one portfolio, you can have separate portfolios to cater to the niche you are targeting. Build a portfolio that showcases your range and versatility and craft compelling case studies that demonstrate the impact your writing had on previous projects.
If you are new to the field and do not have previous projects to add to your Portfolio, try the following:
Add your personal projects: If you have a blog or a website on a specific topic, use that to highlight your content writing skills.
Search for "copywriting exercises for _____" or "content writing exercises for ______" and create content based on the exercises. Include your niche in the search term to make sure you get relevant results.
Use mock brief generators like Good Brief or Fake Clients
Use Generative AI tools to generate a creative brief that's specific to your use case. You can ask the tool to act as a client and have a conversation where they answer questions you may have about the task.
Use freelancing websites like Upwork, Fiverr, or Freelancer to find real-life projects you can work on.
Volunteer at a non-profit and help create content that can further their cause.
If you need more help, check out the Content Writing section on ADPList where you can find mentors with a variety of experience available to guide you and answer your questions. Mentoring sessions are usually 30 minute (free) slots where you can connect with the mentor and ask them questions. It's recommended that you go over the Mentor's bio before the session and have a list of questions to make the most of the time with them.
